MilliRef — Handling, Storage & Care

Practical instructions for unpacking, handling, storage, cleaning and troubleshooting of the MilliRef Ag/AgCl reference electrode.

Quick Start

  1. Prepare
Remove the storage vessel and rinse the electrode with DI/distilled water.

  2. Measure
Place the electrode into the measurement system.

  3. After use
Rinse with DI/distilled water and return the tip to 3 M KCl.

Use & Limitations

  • Designed for aqueous solutions only.

  • Intended as a reference electrode, not a current-carrying electrode.

  • Recommended primarily for short-term measurements.

  • Appropriate electrical shielding is recommended to improve measurement signal and stability.

Storage

Always store the MilliRef tip immersed in 3 M KCl.

  • Keep the electrode in its storage vessel filled with 3 M KCl.

  • Keep the sensing tip wet and minimize unnecessary exposure to air.

  • Store in a cool place protected from direct sunlight.

Troubleshooting

Unstable potential

Rinse the electrode and verify that the tip has not dried out.

Electrode was stored dry

Place the electrode in fresh 3 M KCl and allow it to recondition before testing again.

Measurement still unstable

Compare the response with a known good reference electrode.

Cleaning

Routine cleaning

Rinse with distilled/deionized water before and after use.

After contaminated samples

Use a rinse solution compatible with the sample and electrode materials, followed by DI water.
